About Us

The major hazards in Owhango are motor vehicle accidents, rail derailments, hotel, motel and motor camp, garage, truck depot, large wooden public hall, 3 schools. Also a marae, forestry blocks, DOC reserves, pensioner flats, youth camp, rural farming, airstrips, tourist traffic to Whakahora. Other risk we have identified are residential buildings and ski lodges, tourism on the 42nd Traverse (one of NZ's most popular mountain bike rides).

The brigade supports National Park, Whakapapa, Turangi MVA's on SH47, Manunui and Taumarunui.

Township population permanent 220, 1km square located 39 degrees South on SH4 21kms South of Taumarunui. Predominant industry is agriculture.
