About Us
Hutt Valley Fire Police are a volunteer unit providing Operational Support to both career and volunteer fire brigades in the Hutt District, Arapawa Fire Region. An area with a population of around 140,000, comprising all manner of terrain with commercial, industrial and residential centers, our Unit of 16 members support both Fire and Police when called upon, responding from Rimutaka Station in Upper Hutt or direct to the scene as required. Members provide resources and manpower to the Fire Service which are typically used for traffic and crowd control, scene lighting, refreshments, or any other support tasks as requested. Hutt Valley Fire Police are led by a volunteer Senior Station Officer who in turn reports to the Hutt fire district CFO/DCFO team.

Fire Police are sworn under Section 33 of the Fire Service Act as Fire Police Constables and at the scene of an incident, act under the direction of the Senior Fire Service officer in attendance
