Located on the banks of the Northern Wairoa River, Dargaville sits at the heart of the Kauri coast which is an ideal base for visitors to explore the magnificent surroundings. Dargaville grew initially as a timber town but with the decimation of kauri forests the area has since become a busy service centre for the horticultural and agricultural Northern Wairoa area. The town centre is still populated by a number of 19th century buildings reflecting the town's history.
