Constructed in 1980 the Wanganui Fire Station located on the corner of Hatrick Street and Maria Place Extension replaced the previous Fire Station located on the corner of Guyton and Wilson Streets. The present station comprises a six bay station, housing the Wanganui Fire District's entire appliance and support vehicle fleet.
Station facilities include: District administration offices. Generous general amenities which includes sleeping accommodation for 8 on duty personnel. Maintenance workshops. Training facilities, which includes a six level training/hose drying tower plus the Regional Realistic Fire Training Building (RFTB). This station also houses the Wanganui Fire District Breathing Apparatus Maintenance Department (ISO 9002 accredited) which is responsible for the servicing of 17 district station's BA sets (130 sets).
The Wanganui District Council Rural Fire lease a portion of our building space for the housing of their equipment and operations. Rural Fire vehicles housed at our station include: 4 x 4 Mitsubishi Canter Fire Chaser, 5000 litre Water Tanker and a 4 x 4 L 300 Mitsubishi Van. Consequently, all station facilities are utilized by Rural Fire, including: communication, maintenance, kitchen and shower/toilet facilities.
The Wanganui Fire District is located on the West Coast of the North Island, New Zealand. It is approximately midway between Wellington and New Plymouth, with the city located at the mouth of the Whanganui River (most significant local natural feature) - longitude 158, 10' east, latitude 39, 58' south. Our Fire District services a population of 44,933 people which includes the city and outlying rural districts.
