Statement of Strategic Direction (2008 to 2013)
The statement of strategic direction contributes to the Government’s goal of ‘building safer communities’ by ‘working in partnership with communities’. The Commission will achieve this with a comprehensive approach to managing fire risk, consequently improving fire outcomes for people, property, communities and the environment.
The Commission is committed to working in partnership with other central and local government organisations to ensure a whole of government approach is taken to community issues. In particular the Commission will work closely with territorial authorities to build on existing relationships.
This plan builds on the previous strategic plan and provides a clear focus for the coming five years. It has the full support of the Commission, includes input from stakeholders and has been developed in conjunction with the Chief Executive and senior management team.
A key driver for this plan is to contribute to the Government’s ten year priorities. The Commission contributes directly to two of these priorities:
- 'families - young and old” with close alignment to the sub theme of “safe communities'.
- 'economic transformation” with close alignment to the sub themes “environmental sustainability” and “world class infrastructure'
In February 2007 the Commission adopted five strategic objectives to guide service delivery. The strategic objectives are:
- Strategic Objective one - Improve community fire outcomes
- Strategic Objective two - Increase integration of urban and rural service delivery.
- Strategic Objective three - Contribute to enhanced community security.
- Strategic Objective four - Improve service performance accountability, and resource management.
- Strategic Objective five - Develop and protect our people and promote internal stakeholder partnerships.
