The earthquakes in Canterbury don’t just shake the ground, the also shake our emotions and wellbeing. And, while firefighters are used to dealing with traumatic situations, what many experienced in Christchurch is beyond what anyone could prepare for emotionally or psychologically. Living with trauma, anxiety and stress can be difficult and have long term effects on our emotional, physical and psychological health. The Fire Service has a range of welfare and peer support available for all personnel and their families and we urge you all to take advantage of this. No one needs to be alone in dealing with the impact of the quakes. Please look through this material to help find the support you need.
If what you need is not mentioned here please contact the Transalpine Welfare Officer on ph 03 371 3647.
