Applications for FAIP practitioners from amongst firefighters are called for once or twice a year. Applicants must undergo interviews with their area managers, and be subjected to additional Police screening. On satisfactory completion of the above, firefighters must attend and pass a week long training course at the Fire Service National Training Centre.
Skills maintenance training is provided within each region with two one-day training sessions held each year to maintain and upgrade existing practitioners’ skill levels. Mandatory psychological supervision is provided by a clinical psychologist (see Statistics and Research section for more details).
A three day national conference is held annually for further skills maintenance and training and is attended by approximately 2/3 of all FAIP practitioners.
The programme is run in all Regions using international best practice in management of children and young persons with fire lighting tendencies, and we strive to achieve national consistency across all areas.
