PM to unveil new Hutt City stations

Prime Minister Rt Hon Helen Clark will officially open three new fire stations in the Hutt Valley tomorrow morning.

Miss Clark, accompanied by Internal Affairs Minister Hon Rick Barker, Ohariu Belmont MP Hon Peter Dunne and Hutt South MP Hon Trevor Mallard, will unveil plaques at each of the three new stations, starting at Seaview Fire Station at 10am.

Hutt City and Avalon stations, which along with Seaview went into service on January 15, will also be on the Prime Minister’s itinerary.

Along the way she will have an opportunity to operate a specialised fire appliance and some rescue equipment, as well as inspecting the Fire Service’s station management system — all part of the service’s continually expanding role in emergency response and prevention.
