A Taupo man has been arrested for the alleged arson of his home.
Police have warned that anyone considering destroying their property in an effort to obtain insurance money should think again.
A 57-year-old man was arrested and charged with arson of his own property yesterday, Taupo CIB detective Rick Bagley said.
No one was injured in the suspicious fire in Nobel Street on Saturday night.
The man had been bailed to appear in Taupo District Court next Wednesday.
'These types of crime are investigated thoroughly,' Mr Bagley said.
'Anyone charged with arson faces a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment.
'Insurance companies are highly unlikely to pay out on any claims,' he said.
