Suspicious fire at primary school
December 3, 2008

A second suspicious fire, this time at a primary school last night, is being investigated by Christchurch police.
During the weekend a fire, thought to be arson, broke out in a partly-built police station in Sydenham and caused extensive damage.
A building at St Teresa's Primary School in Riccarton was well ablaze when a member of the public reported it about 10.20pm yesterday.
Detective Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti, of Hornby CIB, told NZPA police had carried out a full scene examination at the school with the help of Fire Safety officers.
The extensively damaged building, a converted garage, was used as a reading recovery room and school storage shed.
'We're seeking any information relating to sightings of anyone in and around the school last night and in the area the fire was discovered,' Mr Tarawhiti said.
Meanwhile investigations were continuing into the fire at the new Sydenham police station.
Damage to the wiring, ventilation and air conditioning systems in the ceiling in the upper level of the building was expected to delay the planned opening early next year.
