Ravensdown Fertiliser factory near Napier was cordoned off this morning as Fire Service called to overheated boiler
Engineers will investigate why an overheated boiler came close to exploding at the Ravensdown Fertiliser Factory in Awatoto, near Napier.
A 500 metre cordon was put in place around the factory and State Highway Two between Clive and Te Awa. The factory was closed while emergency services were put on stand-by at around 6am.
Napier fire officer Brian Dunphy says it is not usual for a boiler to overheat. He says it is lucky no-one was injured and the site has been given the all-clear.
