The 50-year-old man who lost two daughters in a house fire which claimed four lives in south Auckland last Monday has been discharged from hospital. Misi Sau was given the all-clear today, but his 19-year-old step-son is still in intensive care in a stable condition at Middlemore Hospital.
Mr Sau's wife, Fetu Sau, 39, was discharged from hospital last week.
The children who died in the fire at the Mangere house were Mrs Sau's 15-year-old daughter Brenda (aka Brendalyn) Simati, and her one-year-old grandson Tyreece Simati, and Mr Sau's two daughters, Taua Evile, 11, and Mia Evile, 8.
The bodies of Taua and Mia were returned to Christchurch where they lived with their mother, Helen Adams.
They were due to be cremated after a service in Christchurch today.
Mr and Mrs Sau suffered burns as they tried frantically to rescue their trapped children but were beaten back by the intense heat, smoke and flames.
Two people in a sleepout at the rear of the house were not hurt.
Two of the bodies were found in the living room and one in the hallway near the front door. Baby Tyreece was found near his cot.
The fire broke out after a pan of cooking oil ignited.
