Timaru firefighters are putting out an alert and calling for a response from the public.
They are remodelling the historic display at the Latter St station and want anyone who may have any items of historical interest to contact them.
Brigade spokesman Phil de Joux said many items of the brigade's history over the years had been lost, and they wanted to retrieve as much as possible to put on display.
'We are asking members of the public to contact us if they have any items of equipment which could be displayed in secure cabinets at the station.
'There must be dozens of items out there in attics, basements and sheds that would be better served on display as part of the brigade's history.'
Mr de Joux said the brigade had always had a strong historical section.
They produced a detailed written history in 1995 called When the Smoke Clears.
A 1934 Bedford fire appliance has been restored and is on show at the station.
Mr de Joux asked people to contact the station on 684 1200 during work hours
