Volunteer and Emergency Services offer behind-the scenes insight
Emergency Services groups will join forces at North Harbour Stadium on Sunday 15 February for the Volunteer and Emergency Services Open Day, hosted by the New Zealand Fire Service, to provide the public a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into their daily roles.
Organisations including the New Zealand Fire Service, New Zealand Police, St John Ambulance, Coastguard, New Zealand Defence Force, SPCA, Urban Search and Rescue along with other community groups will demonstrate the importance of volunteer groups in our communities and show the types of incidents our emergency services deal with every day.
More than one million New Zealanders are involved in volunteer work, greatly contributing to their communities in areas such as education, social services, health, recreation and the arts. This annual event aims to engage the community with some of these volunteer organisations.
Event Organiser, Terry Hewitt says the Volunteer and Emergency Services open day is a great opportunity to show Auckland’s emergency capability as well as the vital input that non-emergency volunteers have in the community. “Building on our experience from last year’s successful event, we are thrilled the volunteer and emergency services groups that attended last year are returning with a bigger showcase in mind.”
