Working in the Fire Service is very much like being on a marae – it’s about everyone pitching in, working as a team. Being a firefighter was not something I considered when I was growing up, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else. I get up in the morning and I can’t wait to get to work. It’s the sort of job that leaves you with lasting memories. I get a real kick out of knowing that what I do can change someone’s life for the better and there’s not many jobs you can say that about.
