Remuneration

During their recruit course Trainee Firefighters earn a total weekly wage of $694.36 [before tax] for the period of training, through until deployment to a station. Once posted to a station Firefighters earn a total weekly wage of $765.50 [before tax]. This wage represents a base wage which may be improved by working additional shifts on overtime rates. As a Trainee Firefighter, you will be eligible for membership of the New Zealand Fire Service Superannuation Scheme. The employer contributions will be in addition to this base salary. Additional increases in wages occur as firefighters progress in rank through the Training And Progression System (TAPS) - refer "Training and Career Development Section", and by acquiring specialist skills recognised within the New Zealand Fire Service.
